This Obstetric Patient Safety (OPS) Calssroom Course for Postpartum Hemorrhage (PPH) is a one-day course that provides students with education on best practices and treatment priniciples known to effectively manage postpartum hemorrhage. This course consists of didactic content, skills stations and simulation exercises that include team debriefing.
Audience: The AWHONN OPS Classroom Course for PPH is designed for clinicians who work in the perinatal setting
Registration: Due to the program format, space is limited. Preregistration and payment must be received ten (10) days prior to a course.
The goal of the OPS Classroom Course for PPH is to disseminate postpartum hemorrhage best practices to obstetric clinicians. This will improve the obstetric clinician's recognition of,readiness for, response to, and reporting of postpartum hemorrhage providing greater access for women to receive early, effective and aggressive lifesaving treatments for this obsetric emergency.
The overarching objectives are to:
- Discuss, review, and return demonstrate effective management for women who have excessive bleeding after giving birth.
- Use simulaion-based cognitive, behavioral, and technical learning strategies to prace management of postpartum hemorrhage.
Tools such as the PPH risk assessment, Quantification of Blood Loss (QBL) Process Map, Debriefing Form, PPH Management Algorithm, Oxytocin and QBL Pracice Briefs, and other resources are a part of the course. Partcipants will apply PPH knowledge by engaging in skill stations and simulation scenarios.
Complete the PPH Education Course online. Prior to attending the classroom course, each participant must complete the AWHONN PPH Education Course (online) or the Ostetrical Hemmorrhage Course from Gnosis for OB. As proof of completion, participants are required to provide a copy of the certificate of completion to the instructor at the beginning of the class.
Course registrants will receive the required OPS Classroom Course for PPH Student Materials from CJFHC as part of the registration fee. Student Materials contain presentation materials and skills station and simulation tools. Materials cannot be shared or reused, as each resource contains a unique identification code that will allow each person to obtain a continuation education.
CJFHC will purchase the student materials on your behalf. You are responsible for paying AWHONN directly for the online course, should your hospital not have the Obstetrical Hemorrhage Course from Gnosis for OB.
Continuing Education Credit: Nurses: 7.0 contact hours of CNE are provided. Participants must attend the entire course to receive continuing nursing education (CNE) credit contact hours. AWHONN holds California BRN Provider Number CEP 00580 and Alabama # ABNP0058.
