Child Passenger Safety Instructors - 2024 CEU Class Registration - 6 Credit CEU Class

1. Compliant, noncompliant, counterfeit seats (MACPS) (1 CEU) Instructor Lori Cawley
Objective: To raise awareness to growing issues of non-compliant and foreign child restraints in the US market and to provide technicians with resources to assist caregivers.
Description: As the popularity of online shopping increases there have been increasing reports of non-compliant, knock-off, fake and foreign car seats getting into the hands of US consumers. As a car seat technician, how can you tell if a car seat is noncompliant with FMVSS 213? This session will review what is required of a compliant child restraint and will provide tips for how to spot a questionable product. Additionally, this presentation will r3view options for reporting questionable products, as well as messages to share with concerned caregivers.

2. Read the car seat manual because parents don't! (2 CEU) - Instructor Jackie Stackhouse Leach
Objective: As cars seats continue to evolve, we need to check to see if the manufacturer requires additional steps before installing a car seat. What do we need to adjust before installing? Where is the lock off? Is it a true lock off? Do we use one lock off or two? What are the age and/or height requirements for booster seats? Why are some manufacturers recommending that you install their seat with the seat belt instead of the lower anchors? What is the Safe Stop? What is a Star Seat?
Description: Technicians will use labels and manuals to get a better understanding of each seat. We will use this opportunity to take the time to look at a variety of seats and understand the latest design features, including Bubble Bum, Britax, Diono, Doona, Cybex, Dorel, Evenflo, Graco, Orbit, Nuna, Mifold, Peg Perego, Ride Safety Vest, and Star Seat.
3. Loading your knowledge (1CEU) - Instructor Jackie Stackhouse Leach
Objective: A look at more technical ins and outs of car seats.
Description: We’ll take a closer look at belt tensioners, Diono’s angle adjuster, Britax’s secure guide, and Britax’s anti-rebound bar. We’ll also provide an update on which manufacturers allow the use of vehicle seat protectors, rolled receiving blankets and crotch rolls. Technicians will learn more about Evenflo’s test of Meritt’s anti-escape harness lock. What are some innovative ways to fit three car seats next to one another? Last but not least we’ll ask: do we still need locking clips?
4. What is the spin about, part 2? (1 CEU) - Instructor Lori Cawley
Objective: Examining the ins and out of each of the following rotating seats- Graco’s Turn2me, Cybex Sirona, Revolve, Nuna Revv, Orbit – Lori
Description: The latest rage in the industry is car seats that rotate. We now have infant, convertible and all-in-one seats that spin. We’ll look at which ones spin 180 degrees, which ones spin 360 degrees, how to rotate them and how to install these seats.
5. Are you using the LATCH manual? (1 CEU) - Instructor Andy Underwood
Objective: To describe and demonstrate the importance of the material located in the LATCH manual.
Description: We’ll look at the LATCH manual to find answers to many common questions technicians face in the field. Can we use both lower anchors and seatbelts for an installation? Can we educate caregivers on how to prevent shoulder belt entanglement? How does the tether get routed? What should we do with the headrest? As a technician, the LATCH book is a great resource, but only if we are familiar with where and how to find the information inside
