On June 13, 2025, Roseann Cervelli, M.S., LCADC, CPS, CCS, Perinatal Addiction Specialist with the Perinatal Addictions Prevention Program represented the Central Jersey Family Health Consortium at the New Jersey Prevention Network Convention, held at the Atlantic City Convention Center.
Roseann delivered two engaging sessions to audiences of more than 180 combined attendees, including therapists, addiction counselors, prevention specialists, peer recovery specialists, social workers, and individuals with lived experience in addiction and recovery.
Her presentation, “Self-Compassion and Compassion for Others: Tools for Reducing Shame and Stigma in Addiction and Recovery”, highlighted decades of research showing how these practices can improve emotional well-being, enhance hopefulness, and build self-worth—while reducing anxiety, depression, shame, and stigma.
Roseann also emphasized that the principles of Mindfulness, Self-Compassion, and Compassion for Others are transtheoretical—they can be applied across all therapeutic approaches, from CBT and DBT to ACT and IFS. Participants took part in experiential exercises that made the concepts deeply personal. Many expressed that the session was exactly what they needed, with some moved to tears.
“The feedback was overwhelmingly positive,” Roseann shared. “People told me they left feeling inspired, encouraged, and more equipped to help themselves and others.”
