NJ Immunization Information System (NJIIS) – The Registry
The New Jersey Immunization Information System (NJIIS) is a secure web-based program health care providers can use to track the vaccines they administer in their office or view vaccines other providers have administered. NJIIS serves as the official repository of Immunizations administered to children in New Jersey.
NJIIS is the official Immunization Registry per the Statewide Immunization Registry Act – NJAC 8:57 – 3. Any health care provider who administers vaccines to children less than 7 years of age is state mandated to enter these vaccines into NJIIS according to NJAC 8:57 – 3.16.
NJIIS is not only for children, it is a life span Registry. Any person who was born prior to January 1, 1998 can be enrolled in NJIIS at their health care provider (HCP) as long as they give consent to be part of NJIIS.
How does the Docket® mobile app work?
Docket® connects you directly with immunization registries (including the New Jersey Immunization Information System (NJIIS)) to deliver up-to-date personal and family immunization records, including COVID-19. You can use the Docket® app to provide proof of vaccination status as needed. Doses of vaccine reported to NJIIS will appear on the Docket® app for you or your family.

CJFHC conducts…
Provider Trainings: Providers in Central NJ (Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean and Somerset Counties) are trained to manually enter vaccines into NJIIS. School Nurses are trained to view the information in NJIIS for their students and Advanced Webinars are conducted for the existing NJIIS users to learn additional functions in the system. Quality Assurance (QA): QA Specialists conduct routine audits of the providers’ data currently enrolled in NJIIS, comparing provider’s medical record for their patients to the information in NJIIS. Discrepancies are reported to the provider with instructions on how to complete the
Online Immunization Record. The QA Specialists also routinely merge duplicate patients, reset passwords for existing NJIIS users and answer general questions from providers.

Interfaces Management System (IMS):
The NJIIS Interface Management System (IMS) was implemented to facilitate the electronic movement of health-related information between NJIIS and other authorized organizations according to nationally recognized standards. The IMS is a bidirectional interoperable system which expedites data exchange using Health Level 7 (HL7) standards.

Please refer to the NJIIS IMS Local Implementation Guide (IG) for detailed specifications for creating and formatting your HL7 2.5.1 messages. The Local IG also contains sample messages for your reference.
Once you have reviewed the Local IG and created your test HL7 messages, please click here to smoke test your HL7 messages per NJIIS IG. The NJIIS HL7 Smoke Test will only test the structure of your HL7 message to ensure it meets the specifications of the Local IG and not the actual data content.
The NJIIS IMS supports Unsolicited Vaccination Update (VXU) message for inbound transactions and sends out an acknowledgement (ACK) for each HL7 2.5.1 VXU message received. IMS supports Query By Parameter (QBP) message for outbound transactions and responds with a Query Response (RSP) message for each HL7 2.5.1 QBP message received. The NJIIS IMS Gateway exposes a web service to external systems. The web service includes operations to synchronously receive, process, and respond to a single HL7 message. The HL7 messages should be transmitted to the web service deployed in the gateway using SOAP protocol.

Vaccine Preventable Diseases:
The NJIIS staff works with the NJDOH's Vaccine Preventable Disease Program on educating professionals and consumers in the prevention of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) associated cancers and the dissemination of HPV materials for health care providers throughout our service region. In addition, you can access NJIIS on-demand tutorials for Reminder Recall (current users can learn about NJIIS Reminder Recall functionality) and for use of the HPV Vaccination Tool
(intended for health care providers who administer adolescent immunizations; provides important reminders on how to improve HPV vaccination rates, tips for talking to parents about the vaccine, as well as a vaccination dose assessment table). HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection. It is recommended that adolescents get vaccinated by 11-12 years of age, and can be vaccinated as early as 9 years of age. With the high rates of HPV associated cancers and low HPV vaccine coverage rates in NJ, there is a need for continued education on HPV vaccination to prevent cancer including HPV prevalence and current ACIP HPV vaccine recommendations.
