Keeping Kids Safe on the Road: Connecting NJ Joins Middlesex County for Car Seat Safety Clinic in Perth Amboy

On Saturday, June 7, families in Middlesex County got just that. Connecting NJ teamed up with the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office and community partners to host a free Car Seat Safety Clinic at the Perth Amboy YMCA

We know that car seat safety can be the difference between life and death—and that every parent deserves the tools and knowledge to protect their child on the road.

On Saturday, June 7, families in Middlesex County got just that. Connecting NJ teamed up with the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office and community partners to host a free Car Seat Safety Clinic at the Perth Amboy YMCA, where families received hands-on help from certified child passenger safety technicians.

Parents and caregivers had their car seats inspected, learned proper installation techniques, and left with peace of mind—plus some essential supplies like diapers. In total, 11 car seats were distributed to families who needed them.

The event is part of a countywide push, led by Sheriff Mildred S. Scott, to promote traffic safety and injury prevention for Middlesex County’s youngest and most vulnerable passengers. County Commissioner Director Ronald G. Rios put it best:

“This initiative reflects our unwavering commitment to equity and public safety by ensuring that every family, regardless of income, has access to life-saving tools and trusted information to keep their children safe.”

These clinics are more than just quick checkups—they’re part of the broader Vision Zero initiative, a county goal to eliminate traffic deaths and serious injuries through education, community outreach, and policy change. It’s all part of making sure every child has the safest possible start.

As Sheriff Scott shared:

“Child passenger safety starts with the right seat and the right fit, but it doesn’t end there. Events like these empower parents with knowledge and give them the confidence to protect their children on the road.”
