Black Breastfeeding Week 2024 is here, and this year’s theme is powerful: "Listen Up! Reclaiming Our Narrative and Centering Our Stories for Breastfeeding Justice." Healthy Women, Healthy Families invites you to join them on Saturday, August 24, 2024, from 1 PM to 5 PM at Children's Futures, 16 W. Front St., Trenton, NJ, for a day of celebration, empowerment, and community.
Hosted by CJFHC’s Healthy Women, Healthy Families, in collaboration with Capital Health, Children’s Futures, and WIC, this event is all about reclaiming the voices of Black mothers and centering their stories in the fight for breastfeeding justice.
Why Black Breastfeeding Week Matters
Black Breastfeeding Week is a movement born out of the need to address the unique cultural, systemic, and health barriers that Black women face when it comes to breastfeeding. Black mothers are statistically less likely to breastfeed, a disparity that can be traced to historical traumas, lack of support, and ongoing racial inequities in healthcare. By creating spaces that celebrate Black breastfeeding, black women and breastfeeding people can reclaim their power, breaking down stigmas, and fostering a supportive community for Black families.
What to Expect at the Event
This event promises to be a day filled with family fun, games, food, and prizes—but more importantly, it’s a day for connection and learning. We’ll gather to celebrate our shared experiences, hear from voices in the community, and uplift the stories that often go unheard.
Through shared stories, we will highlight the beauty, challenges, and victories of Black breastfeeding families, reinforcing that their narratives matter.
