We are proud to announce that our CEO, Robyn D’Oria, MA, RNC, APN has been recognized by the Burke Foundation as a 2024 Community Champion! This prestigious honor celebrates individuals whose transformative work benefits families during the earliest years of a child’s life. Robyn joins an inspiring group of four other leaders who are dedicated to delivering services and reimagining systems to support young children and their families. They work tirelessly to lower barriers, implement innovative solutions, and ensure that families have the resources they need to thrive. Their efforts not only improve outcomes for individual families but also create a ripple effect that strengthens entire communities.
Under Robyn D’Oria’s leadership, Central Jersey Family Health Consortium has been at the forefront of addressing these challenges. She was instrumental in launching New Jersey’s inaugural pilot of Family Connects in Mercer County – a program since expanded into the groundbreaking Family Connects NJ initiative. Family Connects NJ provides a free in-home nurse visit within the first two weeks after birth, and helps families obtain services for support from lactation and breastfeeding to food and baby supplies.
Reflecting on her time as a labor and delivery nurse, “We thought we were taking care of all the needs a family might have prior to discharge.” Robyn D’Oria said, “But I learned very quickly that we had no idea of the challenges and vulnerabilities families in New Jersey had outside the hospital walls.”
She added, “Family Connects helps bridge the gap between prenatal care, labor and delivery, and early postpartum at home when they’re establishing the family unit. This is when we help ensure they have the healthiest start in life by making referrals, connecting them to additional clinical care, and circumventing any complications that might arise in those first few weeks after delivery.”
